Matt Menashes

Matt Menashes is the Executive Director of the National Genealogical Society (NGS). NGS inspires, connects, and leads the family history community toward a vibrant future by fostering collaboration and best practices in advocacy, education, preservation, and research while enabling people, cultures, and organizations to discover the past and create a lasting legacy. Matt has nearly 25 years of association management experience and is a proponent of using foresight as a strategic tool for organizational learning and growth. At NGS, Matt is leading partnerships with for-profit companies and nonprofit partners to expand interest in family history and telling the stories of our ancestors. With Vivid-Pix, NGS launched Family Matters to provide technology to people to improve their ability to share their family stories. Prior to NGS, Matt served as CEO or operations director for nonprofits in the outdoor recreation and natural resource community. Matt has served on the boards of the North American Forest Partnership, American Canoe Association, Paddler Magazine, the International Whitewater Hall of Fame, the National Fish Habitat Fund, and Leveling the Playing Field. Matt enjoys camping with his wife and son and their dog, who is very scared of bears.
