Justin Young

Justin is the Assistant Vice President at Unum Ventures, where he manages Unum Group’s corporate venture capital fund, which focuses on early-stage startups at the intersection of the future of families, work, and longevity. Since the fund’s inception in 2021, he has played a key role in shaping Unum’s investment strategy, building the venture ecosystem, and leading deal negotiations. His responsibilities include overseeing due diligence on investments and providing support to portfolio companies through advisory roles and board observer positions, aimed at helping them scale and commercialize.

During his time at Unum, Justin worked within corporate strategy, driving initiatives in product development, distribution, and new tech-enabled services. He helped lead the U.S. strategic planning process alongside executive leadership, enabling digital transformation and portfolio management to meet revenue and profitability goals.

Most recently, Justin was an Associate at Oliver Wyman within the Financial Services Practice, where he contributed to strategic initiatives and transformation projects for leading financial institutions. There, he advised an institution on its transition into a digital-first insurer by crafting a future-state operating model and implementing strategies for claims digitalization and captive risk management. He also supported a startup in its preparations for a potential IPO. Justin began his career at Liberty Mutual, where he managed a multi-million-dollar property and casualty product portfolio, executed a turnaround strategy, and led distribution programs that resulted in new business premiums through agent and broker management.

Justin holds an MBA from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business and a BA in Economics from the University of Connecticut. Additionally, he completed the Venture Capital Executive Program at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
